    Clarified the powers of commonwealth dominions. It guaranteed them full legal freedom, providing greater autonomy.
  • First Quebec Referendum

    Called by the PQ, defeated by a 60% 'no' vote. This caused constitutional talks to resume.

    The Liberals patriated the Constitution from the UK. Quebec still didn’t sign on.
  • Meech Lake Accord

    Would grant distinct society status to Quebec, guarantee 3 Quebec supreme court judges, allow provinces a constitutional veto, option to opt out of federal social programs, and play a greater role in immigration policy. Was defeated by Elijah Harper in Manitoba, and Newfoundland.

    All that was in Meech Lake Accord, as well as self government for aboriginals, senate reform, strengthen equality, recognition of group rights, and Quebec would get at least 25% of the seats in the House of Commons. 54% voted against it.
