NHL presedent Clarience Cambell attends the Montreal Forem to watch the game. As a result of his visit a riot occured because Cambell was the reason Richard was suspended.

    Canada adopts the maple leaf flag & replaces the Union Flag. In 1964, current Canadian Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson decided we needed our own flag instead of a flag that was tied to England. He believed after 97 years of being a country we deserved to recognized on our own. Many people were very upset with this new idea & protested. Our country had fought in the War under this flag and nobody wanted a change. After LBP idea was turned down and many others were out forth, the flag was born.

    Bill 63 was passed under the consent of the leader of The Union Nationale government, Jean-Jacques Bertrand in 1969. He was also the 21st Premier of Quebec. Bill 63 confirmed the language that should be taught to students in public schools. It was the parents decision whether they wanted their children to attend a French or and English school.

    Montreal was host to the 1976 summer olympics. Canada placed 27th and the Soviet union placed 1st. THis olympics was the first to be in Canada, even though Canada didnt win any gold medals they still faught a good fight.

    After the provincial election in 1976, it was reveled that The Parti Québécois won minority government. This is very significant in Quebec's history because this is the first time this party has ever won since it was formed on October 11, 1968. The party was elected under the lead of Rene Levesque’s and advocates national sovereignty for Quebec. The rest of Canada panicked at the thought of the secession of Quebec from the rest of Canada and it becoming a sovereign state.

    Bill 101 more commenly known as the Charter of the french language was a bill that was passed in Quebec, to define their most popular laguage and making all the road sigs in french and posters. This has cultural importance because it made Quebec its own independant province.

    After retiring Pierre Trudeau decided to be re-elected as prime minister in 1980. He won the election and became the new Prime minister for the 3rd time. This would be his last relection because he finally resigned.

    This act waintroduced into Canada's government. It also introducing several amendments to the 1867 British North America Act. Queen of Canada, Elizabeth II, was the one to bring the act into effect. She did this by signing a proclamation in Ottawa. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is what forms the first thirty-five sections of this act.

Pierre helped with so many Quebec and Canada relations because he was Prime minister the whole time the issue was at large.
  • Quebec Referendum

    Quebec Referendum
    In 1995 in Quebec, the second referendum was held to ask citizens living in thep rovince of Quebec whether or not Quebec should be seperated from Canada and become an independent state. This referendum was different from the first referendum. In 1995 question proposed sovereignty and an optional partnership to offer to the rest of Canada, while in 1980 it was proposed to negotiate "sovereignty-association" with the Canadian government. The vote revealed about 51% said no and about 49% said yes.
