    Intendant Jean Talon implemented various measures to ensure that the population increased and became diversified. Nearly 800 Filles Du Roy came from France to settle in New France.

    Pierre-Esprit Radisson and Medard Chouart Des Groseilliers explored the Hudson Bay, where they tried to establish the fur trade. Since they had no help from France, they turned to Britain and founded the Hudson's Bay Company in 1670.

The highest in charge was the King and the Parliament of Great Britain, then it was the Governor General, then the Council and then the population.

    The Royal Proclamation was made to assimilate the French. There were only English civil and criminal laws, townships instead of Seigneuries. Also, there was no longer a tithe or a bishop.

    Great Britain accorded its new colony with a legislative Assembly. this act also divided the territory into two entities: Upper Canada and Lower Canada. Each of these was given a government directed by a governor (Lower Canada) and lieutenant (Upper Canada).

    The bank of Montreal was founded in 1817 by Scottish Merchants. These Scottish Merchants also funded expansion projects like canal construction, railway tracks and telegraph lines. They would remain bankers for the Government of Canada until 1935.
