Map of New FranceNew France became a colony in 1763. They came to the New World to trade. Montreal Trade and HBC came under the British mercantilism system. This started an economic shift. French focused on reasorces and the British focused on gaining land. This is important because it started the Francaphone herritage in what is now Canada.

In 1713, Britain took control of the French land called Acadia. This is when Britain won the War of Spanish Succession. Gaining control of Acadia was part of the Treaty of Utrecht. Even though the British gained Acadia, conflict between the two did not end. This led to the creaton of Louisburg (Cape Breton) and Halifax. This is important because Acadia was a French community.
