  • Charlotteton Conference

    -Maritime colonies held a conference in Charlottetown to discuss about the idea of a Maritime union.
    -Canadians persuaded the Maritimers to consider joining a union with the Canadas.
    -They decided to meet again and discuss their plan about the union with the Canadas.
  • Quebec Conference

    -The conference lasted for 2 weeks.
    -The result in the conference was a list called the Seventy-Two Resolutions.
    - In the conference, there were representatives from the United Province of Canada and the maritime colonies.
  • .London conference

    -The delegates took part in the conference with the British officials discussing about the futures of the colonies.
    -Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were able to make changes that were to their benefit.
    -The alantic colonies would be connected to the United Province of Canada,
  • British North America Act

    -This created the Dominion of Canada in 1867.
    -This was the first Canadian constitution.
  • Confederation Celebrations

    -The United Province of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick had been united into one Dominion under the name of Canada.
    -There were many fireworks and cheering crowds for the celebration.
  • Provisional Government

    -Riel met with a convention of 12 French-speaking and 12 english speaking represenatives from the Red River Settlement.
    -Discussed about forming a provisional government.
    -Riel had the support of both english and friend speaking people.
  • The purchase of Rupert's Land

    -HBC agreed to sell Rupert's land to the government of Canada.
    -Sir John A. Macdonald, the prime minister of Canada wanted to take control of the region as soon as possible.
    -William McDougall was appointed lieutenant-governor.
  • The Bill of Rights

    -Governor McDougall gave up and went back to Canada.
    -Over 1000 people, mainly Metis attended the meeting at Fort Garry.
    -Riel formed a convention of 40 english and french speaking from the community.
  • Manitoba Act

    • Manitoba was known was the "postage stamp". -Red River colony and it's surroundings would become the province of Manitoba. -Many points in the Metis Bill of rights became part of the Manitoa Act.
  • Wolsely in Red River

    -Wolseley's troops attacked two of Riel's followers.
    - Riel flew to the USA because of fear.
