    Three British colonies became four Provinces of the new dominion. The existing Province of Canada was divided into the new Provinces of Ontario and Quebec, and two other colonies, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, also became Provinces of the Dominion of Canada.

  • Manitoba in 1870

    The Manitoba Act, originally titled "An Act to Amened and Continue the Act 32-33 Victoria. Chapter 3; and to Establish and Provide for the Government of the Province of Manitoba", is an act of the Parliament of Canada that is defined by the Constitution Act, 1982. The act which received royal assent on May 12, 1870.
  • Northwest Territories in 1870

    Rupert's Land and the North-Western Territory were acquired by Canada from the Hudson's Bay Co. on July 15, 1870. A small Province of Manitoba was created on the same date.
  • British Columbia in 1871

    British Columbia is the westernmost Province of Canada. In 1871, it became the sixth Province of Canada.
  • Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) 1873

    Prince Edward Island (also known as "P.E.I.") is a Canadian Province consisting of an island of the same name, as well as other islands. It became the seventh Province in 1873.
  • Yukon in 1898

    Yukon is the Westernmost and smallest of Canada's three federal Territories. The Territory was created from the rump of the Hudson's Bay Company's North-Western Territory in 1898.
  • Saskatchewan in 1905

    From 1870, to 1905, the region, which is now Saskatchewan, was part of the Northwest Territories, established by the Parliament of Canada.
  • Nunavut in 1999

    Nunavut is the largest, Northernmost and newest Territory of Canada. It was separated from the Northwest Territories on April 1, 1999.
