    Beginning of Confederation - Charlottetown Conference
    The Charlottetown Coference takes the first steps toward Confederation. Delegates from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Ontario and Quebec were present.
  • The Second Conference

    The Second Conference
    A second meeting was held to discuss the Canadian Confederation. This conference ended on October 27, and the delegates returned to their province to submit the Seventy-Two Resolutions to the provincial legislatures. The resolutions were only rejected by PEI.
  • The Battle For Freedom

    The Battle For Freedom
    The Battle of Ridgeway was fought on June 2, 1866 near Ridgeway, Canada West (currently Ontario). The battle was between British and Canadian troops and an irregular army of Irish-American invaders known as the "Fenians." The Fenians were victorious which caused the fathers of confederation to move quickly towards uniting the territory.
  • The London Conference

    The London Conference
    This conference was held in London (United Kingdom) in December 1866. It was the final conference that led to the Canadian confederation in 1867. Sixteen delegates from the Canadian Provinces New Brunswick and Nova Scotia met with officals from the British Government to draft the British North American Act in 1867.

    Canadian Confederation Britian's North American colonies are united by the BNA act to become the Dominion of Canada. The British Province of Canada was divided into the new Canadian Provinces of Ontario and Quebec, and two other British colonies, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, also became provinces of Canada. Ottawa became the captial of Canada and Sir John A. MacDonald is Canada's first Prime Minister.
  • Buying The West

    Buying The West
    Louis Riel Testament Canada purchases Rupert's Land from the HBC. The transfer occured in 1869 and was consummated in 1870 by the payment of 300,000 euro dollars to the Hudson's Bay Company. This purchase would cause a rebellion in the Metis settlement of Red River, led by Louis Riel. He was a champion for Metis rights, yet was later hung in 1885 by the Canadian Government.

    Theres Always Room For One More!
    The Red River Rebellion continues to resist Canadian authority in the northwest. A provisional government is declared but they were driven out by Canadian Forces. The Manitoba Act creates the province of Manatoba and quells the rebellion. in 1871 British Columbia is added as a province and in 1873 PEI is added as a province. Welcome to Canada!
