  • Revolt in Haiti

    Slightly before the main revolution happens, Hispaniola, a French sugar colony, led more than 100,000 slaves in revolt. They seize control of what is now Haiti. This revolt is the first time ever that slaves succeeded.

    Father Hidlago, a parish priest ,had studied the French revolution. He led a revolt against the government.

    The rebels were defeated, and Father Hidalgo was sentence to death.

    San Martin liberated Argentina and Chile. Later on he also liberated Lima and Peru, which is the heart of the Spanish colonies.

    Bolivar led the rebels and freed Venezuela, Columbia, and Ecuador. These countries together formed the Gran Columbia
