    Estates General Called

    Louis XVI called the estates general for the first time in 150 years. The reason he was called was to help with the economic crisis. The estates general ended when the third estate overcame the first and second estates and become its own assembly. When they became their own assembly they invited the other two estates to join against the kings wishes which started the French Revolution
  • National Assembly Formed

    National Assembly Formed

    The National Assembly was made up of the third estate which represented about 96% of the nation. The assembly was formed about a month after the Estates General was called. The assembly lasted until September of 1791

    The members of the third estate took the oath to "not separate and to assemble wherever necessary until the kingdom is established". It was a big turning point in the French Revolution because it laid the foundation for other important events such as the storming of the bastille.

    A state prison called the Bastille was attacked by a angry group of people. They stormed the Bastille because they had reason to believe there was large amounts of arms and ammunition in the fortress. They also wanted to free prisoners they believed were innocent.

    It was formed by the National Assembly and retainted the monarchy. It lasted just under a year. It separated powers and were assigned to different political positions. The king no longer had absolute power as he did before.

    Both the King and Queen were beheaded by the guillotine. On January of 1793 the King was beheaded then 9 months later the Queen was beheaded

    The reign of terror was when Robespierre declares terror "order of the day". It was predicted to take around 20,000-40,000 lives. It purpose was to get rid of all France's enemies and protect the revolution. The ordinary people got more political rights and freedoms from this.

    Reign of Terror Ends

    The reign of terror ended because Robespierre, who was the leader, was arrested and executed hence eding it. After it ended the Committee of Public Safety lost it's authority, the prisoners were freed, and the revolution calmed down. It also caused a lot of deaths.
