  • Meeting of the Estates General

    Meeting of the Estates General
    There were three estates one representing the clergy, nobles, and one for the majority in France. During the meeting at this time they were discussing finnantial crisis. Being that the majority had voting disadvantages they broke apart to reform the constitution of the government.
  • Fall of Bastille

    Fall of Bastille
    A fortress in east Paris was taken over by a rebellious mod enraged by the ruling authority. After the take over it was seen that the Revolution had begun and could not be stopped by the governing body, so they stepped down. The National Assembly earlier created took the role of French government.
  • March on Versailles

    March on Versailles
    Still in financial crisis a mob, mostly women, walked to the Palace of Versailles and demanded food and water from the royal family. They also insisted the king come back with them to live among the people of France, he conceded and followed them.
  • Flight to Varennes

    Flight to Varennes
    The National Assembly was still forming the new constitution decided to put restrictions on the power of the King. Appalled at the changes the royal family tried to escape the country but we're stopped. This created a problem for the new government as the subjects didn't trust the ruler.
  • Dissolution of the National Assembly

    Dissolution of the National Assembly
    The new constitution was put in place and the National Assembly was dissolved and the Legislative Assembly replaced it. As agreed by the National Assembly no one in the prior assembly could be part of the new governing assembly.
  • Wars

    Wars
    The French Revolution was an upsetting topic to the rest of Europe as France was seen as unstable. Even the people of France supported war for several reasons some to crush the new government others to unite it. With this in mind France declared war on Austria.
  • Attack on the Tuileries Palace

    Attack on the Tuileries Palace
    France at the time was being invaded do to the war and there was still economic poverrty all across France. This being the case a larger crowd attcked the Tuileries Palace the royal family fled and were arrested for there protection. After ths many people were killed on accusations of thtem being royalists.
  • Trial of King Louis

    Trial of King Louis
    The Legislative Assembly during this time disbanded and was replaced by the National Convention the first act was to declare France a Repubic. Also at that French military stopped invading and pushed back th opposing armies. This was before the ruling that the King and Queen were to be guillotined in January of 1793.
  • Reign of Terror

    Reign of Terror
    The Nation Convention was almost controlled be the Commity of Public Safety, which was run by Maximilien Robespierre. He eventually declared himself leader of France, this lead to his order to kill over 16,000 people for being "enemies of the Revolution." But after a year of his reign nearly all the leaders of the revolution were dead or gone so he was executed for his crimes.
  • Rise of Napoleon

    Rise of Napoleon
    The National Convention created a new constitution for Frace after the "Reign of Terror." Though the system was weak as the executive branch was full of corruption and relied on the military. This was the case until military leader Napoleon Bonaparte created a system that he was the head of.
