Robespierre was born in Arras, France. Robespierre was a French lawyer and a politician. He was a Jacobin (a radical political organization) leader and one of the principle figures in the French Revolution.

In 1789, Robespierre was elected to be a representative of the Third Estate in the Estates General. Robespierre became a prominent member of the Revolutionary body. He was known as "The Incorruptible" and took a radical, democratic stance in the Revolution.

Robespierre was elected first deputy for Paris to the National Convention. The convention abolished the monarchy, declared France a republic and put the king on trial for treason, all measures strongly supported by Robespierre. The king was executed in January 1793.
