    Marie Antoinette married Louis Auguste on May 16, 1770. Their parents wanted them to marry to hopefully unite France and Austria. She was 14 and he was 15.

    July 14, 1789 marked the day the French Revolution started. People overthrew the monarchy. The Committee of Public Safety took over. People that oppsed the Committee were executed, also known as the Reign of Terror.

    On the night of June 22, 1791 the National Convention abolished the Monarchy, and Marie and Louis were arrested immediately. Barnave, representative of the moderate party in the Assembly, acquited the king and queen of all crimes. They were brought back to Paris and remained under heavy surrveilance until the Storming of Tuileries.
    Both were sentenced to be executed.
