French Revolution Timeline

  • Convection of the Estates General

    This was a meeting between the three estates of France. The first estate was the Clergy. The second estate was the nobility. The third estate was everyone else. The third estate lost the meeting and didn't get what they wanted.

  • Tennis Court Oath

    The National Assembly of France declare themselves the representitives of France. The king locks them out of the room they wanted to go into so they went into a Tennis Court. They started to create a constitution of France.

  • Great Fear

    The Great Fear happened when the King sent troops to surround Paris. The Raiding of the Bastille happened because the people thought that the King would do this gain,

  • Storming the Bastille

    Members of the third estate stormed the bastille. They stormed the bastille because they needed to arm themselves before the king tried to suppress them again.

  • Declaration of the Rights of Man

    They created France's decleration.

  • Women's March to Versailles

    Many armed peasant women marched to Versailles because word had got around that Marie was hoarding bread. Bread was the main source of food for them.

  • Louis and Marie Try to Escape France

    Louis and Marie tried to escape france by going to the frontier and having all of the servants dress up as nobilities and the nobilities dress up as servants. This didn't work and people ended up bringing them back.

  • Constitution of 1791 is Drafted

    France drafts a constitution in 1791. Because of this they become a constitutional monarchy. The people like this but they start to want more. The people want a republic.

  • Reign of Terror Begins

    The Reign of Terror begins. The Comittee of Public Safety started killing people they didn't like during this. They killed roughly 40,000 people during this time.

  • The Directory Takes Power

    The Directory took power after the second constitution was ratified. The constitution was changed and this was the new form of the executive branch of the government.

  • National Convention

    The National Convention was the government that took over after the Revolution.
