    The age of enlightenment was a movement where philosophy, government, economy, and the thought process of Europe was heavily changed by several philosophers, mathematicians, astronomers and many more legendary figures molded Europe into what it is today.

    This was a period of time between America and Great Britain, in which the Americans fought for their freedom against the British, and won. The victory of The American Revolution earned over the freedom and property of the United states of America.

    The Great Fear
    The Great Fear was a time of fright during the revolution of the commoners. Citizens were starving, aggravated, and upset with their government, and began to randomly riot and rebel against the government.
  • Third Estate

    The Third Estate was a grouping of commoners, which made the majority of the population. They were often mistreated and poor, which led to the revolution.

    This was the Nobility. This consisted of the rich, who were exceptionally pampered in comparison to the third estate.

    These were the Clergies. They were the highest valued members of society, and were often religious figures like popes and priests.

  • Meeting of the Estates-General

    Meeting of the Estates-General
    Not to be confused with the National Assembly, the Estates General was the assembly of all three estates to vote on law in favor of the kings economic situation. It was created in order to solve the bankruptcy of France, yet it angered the commoners and they created the National Assembly. They were angered because each estate was only allowed one vote, resulting in an unfair decision among all 3 estates.

    The Tennis Court Oath was a meeting of the third party after being ignored by the other estates, planning out an age of revolution and equality.
  • Creation of the National Assembly

    Creation of the National Assembly
    Contrary to the financial pothole France was stuck in, the King created the National Assembly in hopes to solve his money issue. It was made of all three estates: the clergy, the nobility, and the commoners. And each estate only got one vote. This outraged the commoners, and they created the national assembly; made up of the representatives of the third estate to oppress the estates general.

    At this point, French citizens were fed up with their government. Mistreated, starving, and furious, a surging mob broke into the Bastille and grabbed all the weapons they could to confront their corrupt rulers. The Bastille was the mixture of an armory and a prison, where several prisoners were freed.

    This constitution was created by the people during the French Revolution because they wanted the rights of people. The people wanted the rights of liberty, property, and the right to have a say in the government. The people wanted the government to make safe and lawful decisions for the country.

    The New French Constitution was formed by the National Convention. It retained the Monarchy but it was changed slightly. The majority of power was for held by the Legislative Assembly. It was elected by a form of indirect voting.

    The King and Queen attempted to escape Paris and the people. They disguised them selves as commoners however the queen could not hide who she really was. She had to travel with all her luxuries and was discovered in Varennes; just a few miles from Austria.

    The Declaration of Rights for Women was book created by Olympe De Gouges. In the book it describes how women deserve the same rights as man. The deserve inalienable rights and equality to men in the country. As a result of her writings she was executed, but the the book fueled the revolution.

    The War of Austria started because of the revolution that was happening in France. Austria was afraid of what was happening in France so they declared war on France to try and stop was happening so it didn't happen in Austria and cause the Revolution.

    National Convention
    The National Convention was the first government of the French Revolution. It was created from the National Assembly with it's leader as Maximilian Robespierre. The movement was for the National Convention was to be a republic. However the government was overthrown and failed by just 1795.

  • Execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette

    Execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette
    Once France reached its peak of frustration with the insensitive, immature rule of Louis XVI and his queen, Marie Antoinette, they were executed by guillotine. First, Louis was killed on January 21st 1793, where he was delivered to the chopping block and publicly beheaded. Next in line was Marie. The execution of the two had quite a gap between in, and Marie was left alone and miserable during her final moments. Marie was executed on October 16th during the same year.

    The Committee was formed by the National Convention as a form of government. It was later restructured by the N.C. to put more control towards that people.This government was what led to the Reign of Terror.

    Jean Paul Marat was one of the most well known radical journalists during this time period. He wrote many articles on what was wrong with government during the rule of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. He was murdered in his bathtub by Charlotte Corday.

    This was an age of radical ruling and reoccurring blood shed of French citizens. It started at September 5th, 1793 and ended in July 28th 1794.

    The republic of virtue was a speech given by Maximilian Robespierre. It demonstrated beliefs that democracy was equal to virtue. Virtue is a society that shows high moral standards.
  • Directory is Formed

    Directory is Formed
    The Directory was a five man committee that took government of France. It replaced that Committee of Public Safety. The directory was formed by a small group of men.
