While walking home with Montag, Clarisse asks Montag if he is happy. This upsets Montag and is the beginning of making him question things.

Montag returns home after work and finds his wife, Mildred, passed out after overdosing on sleeping pills.

After finding Mildred overdosed on sleeping pills, Montag calls the emergency hospital. Two men with "snake" machines show up to take care of the situation.

Clarisse tells Montag that if you are in love the yellow of the dandelion will rub off on your chin, however, it does not rub off on Montag highly upsetting him.

After walking with Clarisse and talking about rain, Montag spends just a moment tasting the rain showing that he thinks about the things Clarisse tells him.

After reporting to a call, Montag tries to help convience the woman to leave the books and let her house burn. The woman will not leave though, and Montag watches her burn along with her house.

Mildred informs Montag that she thinks there had been a report of Clarisse being hit by a car.

Montag calls Faber and asks how many copies of the Bible are left.

Montag takes his copy of the Bible to Faber and begs him to teach him how to remember. Here Montag receieves the ear piece.

Montag decides that he is going to read poetry to the women that visit his house.

After both the women and Mildred call in on Montag for hiding the books, the firemen report to Montags house, and he forced to burn down his own house, After burning his own house, Beatty upsets Montag, and Montag sets him on fire.
