  • Montag meets Clarisse

    Montag meets Clarisse and she talks with him about various things in the world, showing her love for nature and people. Clarisse's insight on the world make Montag start to realize what is wrong with society.
  • Mildred's suicide attempt

    Montag returns home and finds his wife unconsious from overdosing on sleeping pills.
  • Montag steals a book

    Montag answers a fire call to a lady's house who had been hiding books in her house. She tells him that she would rather die than live without books. Shaken by this, Montag takes a book, almost as if he could not control his hand from taking it.
  • Clarisse's death

    Montag hears about Clarisse's death and his dissatisfaction with his life increases.
  • Montag reveals his stash of books

    Montag reveals his secret stash of books in an air conditioning vent to Mildred and she is very unhappy that he would do something so dangerous.
  • Beatty visits Montag

    When Montag does not show up at work, Captain Beatty visits him and says that it is normal for a fireman to go through a phase like this and explains to him why books were banned in the first place.
  • Montag visits Faber

    Montag goes to Faber's house to request help in understanding the books. Faber tells him that in order to better society, people need books, the leisure to read them, and the freedm to act upon their ideas.
  • Montag and Faber develop a plan

    Montag and Faber develop a plan to get rid of the burnig and censorship of books. Montag will start planting books in firemans' houses and Faber will contact a printer and start reproducing books.
  • Montag reads poetry to Mildred's friends

    Mildred's two friends come over and talk about the war going on in a frivolous manner. Montag becomes angry at their nonchalance and disregarding attitude toward the world. He takes out a poetry book and reads, "Dover Beach", by Matthew Arnold. Both women are extremely distrubed by the poem and leave to go file a complaint against him.
  • Montag goes back to the fire station

    Montag goes to the fire station and hands in a book to Captain Beatty. Beatty throws various contradictory book quotations at Montag, showing how dangerous and complex books can be.
  • Montag is turned in

    The alarm goes off and the firemen rush to answer the call. They
    arrive at the house and Montag realizes that it was his own house. Montag sees Mildred leaving with a packed suitcase and determines that she was the one who turned him in.
  • Montag burns his house

    Captain Beatty forces Montag to burn his own house and then proceeds to place him under arrest.
  • Montag kills Beatty

    In a moment of panic, Montag turns the flamethrower on Beatty and burns him to ashes. He then knocks the other two firemen unconscious and tries to run away from the scene.
  • The Mechanical Hound attacks Montag

    The Mechanical Hound attacks Montag and injects anesthetic into Montag's leg. Montag uses his flamethrower to destroy the Hound and walks off the numbness in his leg. He then escapes with a few remaining books from outside his house.
  • Montag is almost hit by a car

    As Montag is running away he tries to cross the street in an unnoticeable manner and is almost hit by a passing car.
  • Montag plants the books in a fireman's home

    Montag stops at a fireman's house and plants the books there. He then goes to a nearby payphone to call in an alarm.
  • Montag goes back to Faber's house

    Montag stops by Faber's house and learns that a new Hound, several helicopters and a televison crew have been put on his trail. Faber tells Montag that he is going to go to St. Louis to get help from a retired printer. Montag takes some of Faber's clothes to get rid of his scent and runs toward the river.
  • Montag escapes

    Montag escapes in the river and drifts downstream till he reaches the countryside. He then follows the abandoned railroad tracks until he finds a group of intelectual people, led by a man named Granger.
  • Montag gets to know the book people

    Montag discovers that the group of intellectuals are part of a nationwide network of book lovers who memorize pieces of literature and philospophy. They hope that when the war end, they will be able to help build back civilization with their knowledge.
  • Enemy jets attack

    Enemy jets appear in the sky and completely obliterate the city. Montag and his new group of friends continue on to find more survivors and rebuild civiliztion.
