    Guy Montag, a fireman in this new world was hard at work, flames blazing, reddening his checks, burning down someone’s life and home. He never thought once of the damage he was doing to someone else because, they never thought for themselves at all. He only considered a pleasure to burn.

    Montag was walking home from work one day late at night and encountered a young girl named Clarisse. She was considered an outcast to their society because of her unusual hobbies, like hiking, playing outside and asking questions. She began to open his eyes to the dullness in his life and makes him begin to wonder what purpose he had really served on the earth so far.

    When he reached his house, he found his wife laying limp in their bed because she had just ingested a bottle full of sleeping pills in attempt to kill herself. When she woke up she denied those such actions and said she would never do such a thing.

    Shortly after the alarm sounded at the fire hall and the firemen showed up at an old ladies house where the possession of books was suspected. After finding them, the old lady decided she would rather be burned alive with her books rather than have to live without them. This opened Montag’s eyes and the dissatisfaction within his life continued to grow.

    A few days later Montag discovered that Clarisse, the beautiful, young, curious girl had been killed by a speeding car within the community. When he finds out this happened he got very upset because he felt like he really connected to her. With so much of this new unhappiness in his life, he decided to search for answers in the book he had been stealing from people’s houses that they burnt down.

    When Montag did not show up to work the next day, his boss, Beatty came to his house to talk about how it is normal for firemen to go through a phase where they get very curious about books. He told him that that was okay and to read the book, but it must be burnt within 24 hours of when you first got possession.

    Montag did not want to give up the books he had been hiding. He remembered from one day in the summer when he met an old English professor named Faber in the park and decided he would pay him a visit. Montag eventually told him his dilemma and they devised a plan to trick the firemen and they were going to duplicate the books and plant them in numerous firemen’s houses. Faber gave Montag a special ear piece he had created where they could communicate back and forth without anyone noticing.

    He returned home to his wife, who had company over. He went a little crazy and began reading to Millie’s friends. She tried to cover for him, telling them that he was trying to prove how bizarre books were. He stormed off leaving the women at the house and mess and went to the fire hall.

    He got to the fire hall and all the other firemen were there. He handed Beatty one of the many books he had and got a literature lecture from Beatty. Momentarily after the alarm sounded and they rushed off, only to end up on Montag’s front steps. His wife and her friends had turned him in.

    Beatty forced Montag to burn down his own home and then Montag was going to be under arrest for retaining books. He did as he was told but when he was down, he got in a treacherous fight with Beatty and murdered him by burning him alive.

    He was wanted for his actions and he took off trying to escape the city. He ended up going back to Faber’s house to get old clothes to disguise his scent so the hound would not be able to track him. He managed to make it out of the city and get to a river where he changed his clothes and jumped in, dodging the police and hound.

    He travelled up stream until he met a couple other men who were also fugitives. A war broke out in the city and the small group of men continued to travel the other direction escaping the horror.
