As a Fireman, Montag goes to burn a house that is reported to have many books. He secretly steals a book before the entire collection is burnt. -
Clarisse McMellan dies from a car accident. Montag is upset and doesn't show to work that day. His captain, Beatty, comes to visit him and tells him the entire history of the Firemen.

After trying to read the books his stolen and not getting any meaning out of them, Montag decides to get an education. He finds a teacher named Faber.

Montag and Faber bond over the books and create a plan to rebel against the society.

When Montag returns to work an alarm goes off alerting the Firemen there is a house that needs to be be burned. Upon arriving, Montag discovers that it is his own house and in his anger he kils his captain, Beatty.

Montag runs away to Fabers house, all the while beig chased by a mechanical hound. Eventually leaves Fabers after getting some clothes.

Running away farther into the woods Montag finds a group of welcoming people who agree with him and Fabers opinions on books and society.

Montag starts his life with this group of people as his city is destroyed.
