    Acadian's Exiled for Refusal of Allegiance
    Acadians refused to sign the oath of allegiance to Britain. British Lieutenant governor decided to deport the Acadians. 10 000 Acadians were deported. They then created their own little nation and Canadian identity. The Acadians probably have a worse perspective on Canadian Identity because of what happened to them in 1755.

    The battle on the Plains of Abraham was a very short battle but the French surrendered to the British in the end.
  • Royal Proclamation

    Royal Proclamation
    The royal proclamation stated that First Nations are sovereign people.
  • Lord Durham's Report

    Lord Durham's Report
    Lord Durham wanted to keep assimilating the Francophones so he made this report to make upper and lower Canada one province and to make the language English.

    Louis Riel Executed
    Louis Riel was executed for treason. He had been going against the Government to protect the Metis. He did not really like to be identified as a Canadian because of the Government being so bad. He changed the life of the Metis people.

    This was a treaty that gave the First Nations their land but it also outlined some things that were to get rid of the First Nations. If they did certain things, their title would b taken away from them.

    The head tax was made for the Chinese. They had to pay to enter Canada.

    The Manitoba schools questions was a school system that was trying to assimilate the Francophones into "normal" English-speaking people.

    Canada needed help in the world war so they forced men to join the army. This was a problem for many people as they didn't agree to war and needed to stay home.

    This White Paper was to eliminate all the treaties that we had given the aboriginals. The aboriginals did not like this because it took away the peace, land, and rights they had been granted. This downgraded their Canadian identity because they were unhappy with what the government was trying to do.
  • FLQ Crisis

    The FLQ group kidnapped the Provincial Deputy Preimeir Peire Laport and British diplomat James Cross. The FLQ would not like to be Canadian because of their Government too but it helped the Canadian Identity of the others in Quebec because the government ruined the FLQ.

    The act was meant to promote and recognize the understanding that multiculturalism is a very important thing to have and embrace in a country. It was also meant to be proud of our diversity and to celebrate all peoples, no matter their origin.

    The French decided that they needed their language back so they passed this Bill. It gave them back the right to teach and learn their language.

    The National Energy Program was meant to control the energy prices for all the provinces. Alberta suffered a lot from this but it is no longer in existence.

    The constitution was meant to be signed by everyone but Quebec refused and to this day, they have never formally agreed to it.

    Reasonable accommodation was all about giving different cultures and religions things that they need. Wearing a turban instead of standard police hats is an example.
  • Oka Crisis

    Oka Crisis
    The Oka Crisis started when the Government had decided to make something on Aboriginal land. The aboriginals tried to protect it and protested there for months. The protest got violent and the army was sent there. One officer died I believe. In the end, the aboriginals got to keep their land. This showed them that they still have the power to protect their land but they aren't proud of the government for trying to take it.

    Quebec held its second referendum to decide if they were going to leave Canada or not. The vote was 50.58% for staying in Canada.
  • Canada Apologises to Aboriginals

    Canada Apologises to Aboriginals
    Pierre Trudeau went on TV and formally apologized to all Aboriginals for the harm they had done by residential schools. This helped the aboriginals feel a little safer and connected to Canada and helped with their Canadian Identity. They still don't like Canada very much but it's getting better.
