  • Period: 1096 to 1099

    The First Crusade

    The only Crusade that managed to take Jersualem, composed of peasants led by Peter the Hermit and French knights led by Godfrey of Bouillon, this Crusade ended with the streets of Jerusalem being drenched in blood
  • Period: 1145 to 1149

    The Second Crusade

    King Louis the 7th tried to recapture Jerusalem but was defeated at Damascus
  • Period: 1189 to 1192

    The Third Crusade

    Probably the most famous Crusade, highlighted by massive Christian armies, and the conflict between Richard the Lionheart and Saladin.
  • Period: 1202 to 1204

    The Fourth Crusade

    Meant to unite the Christians into one cause, but ended up being brought to Constantinople by the Venetians, where the Western Christians killed their fellow Christians of the Byzantine Empire.
  • 1212

    The Children's Crusade

    An army of children, all captured and sold into slavery
  • Period: 1217 to 1250

    Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Crusades

    All failed to varying degrees
  • 1396

    Battle of Nicopolis

    Called the Last Crusade, French and Hungarian knights were slaughtered.
