    The moust famous happenings of the Neolithic Britain and Bronze ages are the buildings of stonehenge (2500 BCE) and the ring of Avebury.

    The Celts

    The celts were a group of people whe went from the Central Europe. They loved the gold and fighting.
    The british isles have a lot cest culture.
  • Period: 55 BCE to 410

    Roman britain

    Julius Caesar invadad Britain but later in 54 BCE he left Britain after de Britons agreed to give money to the Romans.
    About 100 years later Claudius sent another army and conquered Britain. Romans helped Britain by building towns and paths .
    Later Emperor Hadrian build a wall to be proctected from the PIcts.

    There were diferent kingdoms:
    Nrthumbria,Mercia, Wessex, Kent and Anglia

    Vikings and Anglo-Saxons

    The Anglo- Saxons came from the east of Europe.
    They divided Englan in finve kingdoms.
    In CE597 the cristian religon were expanded in Britain
    Later, in CE 800, The vikings attaked britain, the didn't win but the king allowed they to live in the area around York.
    They also controlled the northwest of Scotland

    Harold, a duke from france, attacked England. He died but the normans won the war, so William became the king.
    They build the feudal system were the Normans were lords and the Saxons were the serfs.

    There was a war for power between the rich men and the king. This war was solved with the 2 "Magna carta"
    In the 1348 The black death came to england and died the half of the population.
    There also took place the "hundred years war" between England and France. In this war England lost almost all the land situated in France.
    The war of roses was a war very important in the Middle Ages were the Lancaster House and the York house fought for the crown. At the end the house of Lancaster won.

    The Tudor period

    Henry Tudor became the King and crated the Tudor rose which was a symbol of peace between Lancaster and York.
    His soon married Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn, and he had two dauthers Mary and Elizabeth.
    When Mary reinged many protestants were killed so she was called "Bloody Mary". But later in the reing of Elizabeth were many famous writers and English sailors explored America

    Gun powder and Civil War

    on 4th November 1605 Guy Fawkes tried to blow up King James I because he thought that the king's laws were unfair.
    When James's son, Charles became king he wanted to close Parliament and to govern alone but many people were against it so later in 1642 began a war between the Royalists, who supported King Charles, and the Parliamentarians, who suported Oliver Cromwell.
    At the end Cromwell won and Charles was beheaded
    Comwell started to reign as the Lord Protector.

    Cromwell killed many Irish soliers, sent boys and womenn as slaves, cancelled Christmas and gave land in ireland to his protestant solidiers.

    in the Charles II reign there were two terrible events. The first one was the great plague (1664) when the bubonic plague killed about 20% of the population. The second one was the "Great Fire of London"(1666).
    when Charles II died the parliament was unhappy because of the new king James II. Then the parliament invited William of orange to invade the country and James ran away to France.

    In 1701 the Act of settlment said that Roman Catholic could be king or Queen.
    In 1707 The Act of Union said that England and Scotland were one country.
    Later in 1714 King Geroge I who spoked very little english reigned. George III lost its colonies in america after the War of Independence(1775-1783).
    But Britich colonised Australia and India.
    In 1801 the goverment indoduced the Act of union with Ireland.

    The industrial revolution

    Towards the end of the eighteenth century the idustrial revolution began in Britain.
    New machines were invented, people started to move to the cities searching for work in the factories.
    But it created some problems. The living conditions of the workers were unhealthy, the wage was very poor and the children also had to work.

    The Children as worker became illegal, education became free, and cities became healthier.
    In this period British conquered some parts of Asia and Africa.
    From 1845 to 1849 there were the "Great potato famine".That was when a disease killed the potato plants and many people died because they had no food.
    In 1857,Indian soldiers attacked britain but the but the british got back control

    Some Irish people wanted Ireland to be independent.
    in 1919 the Irish war of independence began and finally the south became Independent because there were many Roman Catholic.
    Later in 1939 Britain was involved in the second world war until 1945

    Second half of the Twentieth Century

    The coutries in the british empire became independent.
    Some Northen Irish people wantend Ireland to be united.
    Here starts a period called "The Troubles"
    The Irish Republican Army Fought and there were more than 3,500 deaths. In 1998 the "Good Friday Agreement was signed and the troubles were solved.
    In the 1960 there many successful British music groups. they are known as the swinging sixties.
    In 1973 the british isles entered the European Community.
