    From 1812 on, the French army started losing against the Spanish and British army, which supported Fernando VII. Napoleon was forced to reappoint Fernando VII as king in 1813.

    Fernando VII abolished the Constitution and re-established and anbsolutist monarchy under his rule

    King Carlos IV appointed his valido, Manuel Godoy, who signed the Treaty of Fontainebleau to form an alliance with Napoleon Bonaparte to invade Portugal travelling through Spain. Napoleon betrayed Godoy and invaded Spain instead.

    Rafael del Riego forced Fernando VII to reinstate principles of the Constitution. In 1823, The Holy Alliance helped Fernando VII restore an absolutist monarchy.

    A 10-year period of repression under Fernando VII began. In 1830, his daughter Isabel was born. *Salid Law prevented women from ruling, so he abolished it. His brother Carlos did not accept this change.
