Constitution
It is “established that the Mexican Nation is forever free and independent from the Spanish government and from any other power” (Article 1). -

Changed the slavery debate. It almost doubled the size of the United States and began a debate, between Northerners and Southerners, over what to do with the newly acquired land. -

Benito Juárez Goverment
Juárez always defended equality, freedom, legality and democracy. Benito Juárez legislated so that the education of Mexicans was free, compulsory and secular. -

Was an extended sequence of armed regional conflicts. It has been called "the defining event of modern Mexican history".
