  • Louis XVI crowned King of France in 1774

    Louis XVI crowned King of France in 1774
    After his grandfather died, he became the King of France. When he first became the King of France, the people of France did like him.
  • American Revolution Begins

    American Revolution Begins
    The American Revolution was a war between the British and the 13 colonies in North America. The British ended up winning the war.
  • Calling of the Estates General

    Calling of the Estates General
    The King calls a meeting of the Estates General because he wants permission to tax the 1st and 2nd Estates. The 3rd estate is very upset because of unfair representation.
  • Formation of the National Assembly

    Formation of the National Assembly
    The 3rd estate revolts and creates their own body. They created the National Assembly because they were tired of poor representation and being treated unfairly.
  • Tennis Court of Oath

    Tennis Court of Oath
    They went to Tennis Court and made a pack saying they weren't going to separate until a new constitution was made. This was the beginning of the French Revolution.

    The higher class got their privileges taken because the 3rd estate was running the country. The 1st and 2nd estate didn't like that so they went to war

    The march began among women in the marketplaces of Paris who, on the morning of 5 October 1789, were near rioting over the high price and scarcity of bread. The market women and their various allies grew into a mob of thousands. Encouraged by revolutionary agitators, they ransacked the city armory for weapons and marched to the Palace of Versailles.

    On April 20, 1792, the Legislative Assembly (France's governing body, formed in 1791) declared war on Austria. Although the French fared poorly at first, the armies became more successful as the war progressed.
  • The National Convection is formed

    The National Convection is formed
    The National Convection set aside the constitution and it abolished the monarchy. The National Convection also made France a republic.
  • Louis XVI is executed

    Louis XVI is executed
    One day after being convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers and sentenced to death by the French National Convention, King Louis XVI is executed by guillotine in the Place de la Revolution in Paris.
  • Reign of Terror

    The Reign of Terror was a radical political organization (called the Jacobins) that was very cruel and would kill people. Maximilien Robsespierre was the leader of the Jacobins and he gained power in France.
  • The Thermidorian Reaction

    The poeple have had enough with Robspierre. Robspierre was executed by the guillotine.
  • The Directory is formed

    The Directory is formed
    The Directory was a five-member committee which governed France from 1795. When it replaced the Committee of Public Safety, until it was overthrown by Napoleon Bonaparte
  • Napoleon takes power

    Napoleon takes power
    The coup of 18 Brumaire brought General Napoleon Bonaparte to power as First Consul of France, and, in the view of most historians, ended the French Revolution. This bloodless coup d'état overthrew the Directory, replacing it with the French Consulate.
  • Napoleon invades Russia

    Napoleon invades Russia
    In June of 1812, Napoleon invaded Russia with 680,000 men. The Russians retreated all the way until October because in October, you start to see snow. Napoleon men kept dying and he came back with about 150,000 men left.

    In June of 1815, the French army of Naopleon losses the battle. This was the last stand of Napoleon.
