While reading with Mildred, he remembers a man that he met a while ago. He remembered that Faber told him he was a retired English professor. Montag talks to him about books. Montag then suggests to print out extra books and put them in firemen's homes

While Montag is with Beatty, the alarm goes off and they head to the cause of it immediately. It turns out the alarm was sent from Montag and Mildred's home. Beatty teases and angers Montag until he picks up a flamethrower and kills him.
