    June 3, 1811, Bolivar returned to Venezuela and, made a speech calling for independence. He then participated in the battle of Valencia under the command of Francisco de Miranda. He would lead many battles in his fight for his beliefs.

    Bolivar Resting Troops
    August 5, Bolívar permitted his men to rest for forty hours.. In taking Tunja, Bolívar captured valuable food, medicine, ammunition, and other supplies that were meant for Barreiro’s army.

    The dreadful Battle of Boyaca took place on August.7. 1819. The battle was between the Patriots and the Spanish. It took place in Columbia. The patriots later won.

    Start of an autonomous government in the former Spanish provinces.This began right after the battle in 1819. This Government was run by its people.

    On the orders of Santander, Colonel Barreiro and 38 more were executed in Bogotá on October 11, 1819. This was just after two men were promoted. Santander and Anzoátegui is who that would be.

    On July 26, 1822, Bolivar met with José de San Martin at Guayaquil, Ecuador to discuss the strategy for the liberation of Peru. No one knows what took place in the secret meeting between the two. but San Martin returned to Argentina while Bolivar prepared to fight against the last Spanish bastion in South America

    In 1824 , the royalists would once again be defeated by Bolívar, this time at the Battle of Carabobo. This battle marked the last gasp of organized Spanish resistance in northern South America.

    This then led to the creation of Gran Columbia.Today for the state that encompassed much of northern South America and part of southern Central America from 1819 to 1831.

    The holiday was first celebrated in 2012. It is also a day after Bogota was established. It is a double reason to celebrate.
  • New Granada

    New Granada
    The kingdom became part of the Viceroyalty of New Granada first in 1717 and permanently in 1739. After several attempts to set up independent states in the 1810. They then ceased altogether in 1819, after the battle.
