    King Charles of England tried to force Scottland to become Angican. Parliament made him sign a document called the Petition of Right that limited the King's power. After signing this, Charles ignored it, leading to an English Civil War.

    This war between Parliament and King James II lasted about a year. Parliament raised an army to force the King into obeying the restrictions put on him. He fled and this put Parliament above the King and Queen in power.

    William of Orange took over after King James II fled during the Glorious Revolution. He married Mary and they became King and Queen of England.
