King Charles of England tried to force Scottland to become Angican. Parliament made him sign a document called the Petition of Right that limited the King's power. After signing this, Charles ignored it, leading to an English Civil War. -

Charles II was King Charles son. -
James II takes power
James II was Charles II son. Like King Charles, he tried to disband Parliament. This leads to the Glorius Revolution. -
Glorious Revolution
This war between Parliament and King James II lasted about a year. Parliament raised an army to force the King into obeying the restrictions put on him. He fled and this put Parliament above the King and Queen in power. -
William of Orange
William of Orange took over after King James II fled during the Glorious Revolution. He married Mary and they became King and Queen of England. -
Constitutional Monarchy
In this form of government, everyone is subject to laws. There are still Kings and Queens, this was a compromise between Kings and Parliament.
