    Sir John A. Macdonald Was Born
    Sir John A. Macdonald was the first Prime Minister of Canada. As Prime Minister, he founded the North-West Mounted Police. Along with the creation of the Canadian Pacific Railway, he openned the West of Canada for settlemetnt. Macdonaldd is known as a Father of Confederation. John A. Played a large role in joining the Maritime Union and the Province of Canada to form the Conferation. Sir John A. Macdonald was elected 3 more times as Prime Minister in 1882, 1887, and 1891.

    Sir Oliver Mowat
    Oliver Mowat</a>On July 22, 1820, Sir Oliver Mowat was born in Kingston Ontario to John Mowat and Helen Levack. Oliver was raised in the Presbyterian church. He became Sir John A Macdonald's first articled law student. Even though Oliver was brought up conservative, he eventually became the third premier of Ontario--a Liberal Premier.

    The exact date of when Mackenzie got elected is unknown. The city of York was renamed Toronto, one of the most famous cities in the world. William Lyon Mackenzie (March 12, 1795 – August 28, 1861) was the first elected Mayor of Toronto.

    The Canadian-American Reciprocity Treaty

    The Canadian-American Reciprocity Treaty allowed free trade with natural goods. After the American Civil War, America ended the treaty as part of revenge for siding against the Union. This made the British North American Colonies incouraged to find new means of trade-Confederation.
  • Bytown Renamed to Ottawa

    Bytown Renamed to Ottawa
    Bytown was founded in September 26, 1826. If was popular for it's timber trade. On January 1, 1855 Bytown was renamed Ottawa. The town would soon be home to Canada's Parliament and Canada's capital city.

    The American Civil War
    In The American Civil War (April 12, 1861 – April 9, 1865), the Great Brittan sided with the Confederates, who were for slavery. The Union won; they were against slavery and supported the federal government. The Union supposedly would turn on Great Brittan and its colonies. So, if Canada became its own country, it was thought that the United States wouldn’t attack them.
  • Charlottetown Conference

    Charlottetown Conference
    When the Charlottetown conference took place, there was a circus in town so, the Province of Canada (Ontario and Quebec) held a circus party to bribe the Maritime Union (Newfoudland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswich) to join the Confederation, In the course of 9 days (September 1-9, 1864) the maritime agreed to join the confederation.
  • The Quebec Conference

    The Quebec Conference
    On October 33 representatives from Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and the United Province of Canada attended the Quebec Conference. For 17 days, they discussed the composition of the government,chose Canada's official languages, formed the 72 resolutions that would shape Canada. In addition to these important topics, Oliver Mowat and Sir John A Macdonald divided the power between provincial and Federal Government.
  • Fenian Raids

    Fenian Raids
    From 1866 to 1871, a series of Fenian raids occered. The Fenian Brotherhood is an organization with the purpose of freeing Ireland from Brittan by holding Canada hostage. In April, 1866, they attacked Compobello Island, New Brunswick with over 700 men, seeking to seize the island from the British. Luckily the US government fought them off. The raids gave Canada a good reason to become a dominion for self protection of attacks.

    British North America Act in Effect
    The Birth of Canada took place on July 1, 1867. On March 29, 1867 Queen VIctoria signed the finished British North America Act. It was not until July 1, 1867 when the BNA Act came into effect. Though it had been a team effort, Sir John A, Macdonald had drafted two thirds of the BNA Act which helped him become Canada'a first Prime Minister.
