Spain sent Columbus and others on an expedition. On this expedition Columbus discovered the New World, later named America after Amerigo Vespucci. The effect of this ws that America was discovered and many Europeans came over to America to settle. -

St Bartholemew's Day Massacre
Violence against the Huguenots started during the French Religious Wars. King Henry IV, the French Protestants and the Huguenots were all involved. The effect this had was that the Catholics and Protestants gained religious freedom. -
Spanish Armada Defeated
The Spanish Armada, led by King Philip Ⅱ, was defeated by the English Navy , owned by Queen Elizabeth and led by Sir Francis Drake. The effect that this event had was that Spain lost and never recovered as a country -
Thirty Years War Ends
The war that lasted for 30 years (1618-1648). The war was the Catholics vs. the German Protestants. The effect this war had was that 100 years later the HRE split into 2 different countries (Austria and Prussia). -
Civil War in England ends
The Civil War in England lasted from 1642 to 1651. The people rebelled against the Kings. The people involved were Oliver Cromwell, Charles 2, James 2, William 3 of Orange, and Mary. Because of this War the political parties and the cabinet system were created, and we still use these today -
Costly Wars by King Louis XIV
The people turned on King Louis XIV because he involved them in costly wars. The effect was that the English and Dutch united against him. -
The Palace of Versailles Built
King Louis XIV built the Palace of Versailles for himself. The effect that this had was that he thought higher of himself. -
Government divided into 3 different braches
Baron de Montesquieu divided the government into 3 major branches: Legislative, Judicial, and Executive. The effect that this had was that America used and still uses this type of government. -
Creation of the Social Contract
The Social Contract was an agreement that people signed to give up their freedom to live in an organized society. Thomas Hobbes wrote this because he thought all people were bad. The effect that this had was that the government improved and was more shaped. -
Government was determined to only have 3 duties
Adam Smith said that government should only protect society, administer justice, and provide public works. The effect was that we still use these ways today -
Voltaire beheaded
Voltaire was beheaded for writing on freedom of speech. The effect that this had was that he was a supporter of seperating the church and the state and he also fought for human rights which inspired other people to start a revolution. Voltaire said "It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets" -
First Fight for Women's Rights
Mary Wollstonecraft was the first to fight for women's rights. The effect that this had was that more and more women started realizing they needed rights too and they fought for them. Mary said "Taught from infancy that beauty is woman's sceptre, the mind shapes itself to the body, and roaming round its gilt cage, only seeks to adorn its prison"
