While The World Watched Jonathan Hong

  • My Little Brother

    My Little Brother
On July 18th, my little brother was born. I remember I was only 3 years old when it happened. My mom was rushed to the hospital in the middle of the night, and for a very long time, I had no idea what was going on. Mom hadn't been home for days so Dad had to watch over me for a while. One night he wasn't there and my grandma had to babysit me. Later on that night my grandma told me I had a baby brother. I wasn't sure what to say or do when she told me that.

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger

    Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnold Schwarzenegger became governor of California on November 17, 2003. He was a very successful governor and resigned from office in 2006. Schwarzenegger was the first governor to be born outside the U.S. I have been very inspired by Arnold's success in being a bodybuilder to a actor and then becoming a governer. I learned from Arnold that with enough hard work, anything is possible.
  • Camping

    Camping
It was Christmas Break, and Dad decided he wanted to take my little brother and I camping. We brought my grandpa and cousin to join us. It felt so wild to go camping because it was very different from living in a house. One of the reasons was because there wasn't any light bulbs, we had to use a fire for light.
  • Public School

    Public School
The first time I went to a public school was in first grade. I was very excited to meet new people and to make friends. That's all I could talk about for days. At the same time, I was nervous about the size of the new school, it was vastly larger than my previous school. The new school I attended was called Spring Hill Elementary.
  • The Beach

    The Beach
In 2007, I went to the beach for the very first time. The expanse of the ocean and the crashing waves inspired awe as well as fear. However, my family encouraged me to overcome my anxiety. After they convinced me, I finally splashed into the cool water of the sea. Ever since that experience, I eagerly anticipate our family's annual beach vacations.
  • Barack Obama elected president

On November 4, 2008, a year before Michael Jackson"s death, Barack Obama became the 44th president of the United States. Everyone was excited to have the first black president. During his term as president, Navy SEALS captured and killed Osama bin Laden, who was responsible for the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks. He won the Nobel Peace in 2009, and also won re-election in 2012. This event made history, and I think it is amazing that the first black president was elected in my lifetime.

  • The airplane

    The airplane
It was a few years ago when I first flew on a plane. The plane was colossal and made intense noise. It was a very different experience from riding in a car. As you ascend into the air, your ears would start to pop. It was a very fun experience looking out the window and seeing the miniature world below.
  • The airplane

Jonathan's first trip on an airplane was especially memorable for me because I have always enjoyed flying. I wanted him to have the same experience. I believe His favorite part was seeing the world below look so small.
  • Steve Job's death

    Steve Job's death
On October 5, 2011, Steve Jobs died from Pancreatic Cancer. He impacted technology in many ways. For example, he perfected the touch screen technology, which many other phone companies tried to imitate. The world was greatly saddened by Steve Jobs' death. He was an amazing entreprenuer and exceptionally enhanced the progression of technology in my lifetime.
  • Felix Baumgartner

    Felix Baumgartner
Felix Baumgartner skydived from the edge of the atmosphere on October 14, 2012. Setting a world record, he was the very first person to skydive from a height of approximately 24 miles above the earth. Also, he was the first person to break the sound barrier without using a vehicle. Before this event, he lived in Austria. This was a major success not only for him, but also mankind. This event made me think more about space and the potential that is in each of us to do great things.
