  • 1555

    Peace of Augsburg Divides Christianity( In Germany)

    The Peace of Augsburg ended the warfare between Catholic and Protestant in Germany. This treaty was only temporary because it didn't last long. Though while it lasted it freed German states form Catholicism and Lutheranism. They both had the same right, but later subjects wort free able to choose their religion. This was because German rulers decided their religion for them.
  • Oct 7, 1571

    Battle of Lepanto (Christian Alliance Destroys Ottoman Fleet)

    This was battle that took place on the western coast, it was also the first victory for the Christian naval force or fleet. Ottoman controlled the Mediterrean island of Cyprus, and this was a result in the Battle of Lepanto. During the battle thousands of men were captured as well as 117 galleys. One of them man that fought in the battle was a Spanish writer named Miguel de Cervantes. He wrote a book called Don Quixote.
  • England Defeats the Spainsh Armada

    England defeating the Spanish is known as England's greatest military achievements.This defeat happened at sea so it involved the armada which they defeated. It didn't take long for England to defeat the Spanish after their ships were almost done for. The Spanish broke apart at sea to try and get away, but it just made it easier for England to get them.
  • Shakespeare First Folio(Published)

    This was a book of 36 of Shakespeare's plays and groups them into comedies, histories, and tragedies. The book is around 900 pages. Since this was Shakespeare first book it meant a lot to him, publishers even used the Fist Folio to make copies for the plays.
  • English Found Massachusetts Bay Colony

    In the year 1630, about 1,000 Puritan refugees from England settle in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It was under Governor John Winthrop and Deputy Governor Thomas Dudley. It lasted until the year 1691. The Massachusetts Bay intended to set up a society that would accord with what they believed to be God’s wishes.
  • Oliver Cromwell Begins Reign as Lord Protector(In England)

    Oliver Cromwell was an English military and political leader. Oliver served as Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, until his death(He helped other places as well). He started in the year 1653 and ended in the year 1658. He acted simultaneously as head of state and head of government of the new republic.
  • Louis XIV Begins Absolutist Rule(In France)

    Louis XIV took over the role of Mazarin's(Died in 1661). Louis XIV broke tradition and astonished his court by declaring that he would rule without a chief minister. Louis's reigned was known as the Sun King reign, he thought he was the direct representative of God. His reign lasted for 72 years.
  • Louis XV of France Came to Throne

    Louis XV was king of France from 1715 to 1774. His parents and brother died when he was young so he became king at age 5, so the Duke of Orleans took control as his regent. He was known for contributing to the decline of royal authority that led to the French Revolution in 1789.
