  • Estates General Called

    Estates General Called
    Estate Generals have had several meetings before, but could never come to reach a final decision that was fair; the clergy and nobility would vote together and take advantage of the commoners. King Louis XVI called them all together to discuss the huge financial crisis they were in and decided on heavily taxing the commoners.
  • National Assembly was Formed

    National Assembly was Formed
    The Third Estate grew tired of the unfair treatment and formed the National Assembly. They tried to talk with the First and Second Estate again, but nothing changed. Eventually other people who weren't commoners joined the National Assembly because they were so fed up with King Louis XVI.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    After arguing for so long and nothing happening, members of the National Assembly gathered in a tennis court and declared that they would stay there until they wrote a new constitution for France. "not to seperate, and to reassemble wherever circumstances require, until the constitution of the kingdom is established."
  • The Storming of Bastille

    The Storming of Bastille
    A mob attacked the Bastille prison after hearing that the financial governor that was in their favour, got fired. The mob stole weapons and gunpowder to be able to fight and when the prison governor didn't do what they asked, the people charged and started a brutal battle that ended with the governors head on a spike.
  • The Constitutional Monarchy Forming

    The Constitutional Monarchy Forming
    The National Assembly created this constitution to replace the old one. The constitution kept some of the same things as the old one, but more independency was involved. Now, citizens who paid a tax could vote for representatives. This was called the legislative Assembly. This constitution lasted about a year.
  • France a Republic

    France a Republic
    The Monarchy was overthrown. Two groups were in charge of France at the time and constantly butted heads. The Girondins and the Jacobins. The Legislative Assembly finally voted to get rid of the Monarchy, therefore establishing the Republic of France.
  • Beheaded

    When the Monarchy was abolished, King Louis and Marie-Antoinette were sentenced to treason. They were both guillotined and their son died in prison from horrible conditions. The people hated them because of their lavish lifestyle and dislike for the monarchy.
  • Reign of Terror Begins

    Reign of Terror Begins
    The Reign of terror was a bloody part of the revolution where everybody that was against the revolution was executed. Around 18,500-40,000 people were murdered. People at the time were worried about foreign invasion and assassination and did everything to stop it.
  • Reign of Terror Ends

    Reign of Terror Ends
    Maximilien Robespierre was one of the leaders of the French Revolution and said the Reign of Terror was ¨the order of the day¨. Robespierre was one of the people who allowed all the guillotine executions and even encouraged it. Robespierre's power was taken away and he was executed. This ended the Reign of Terror and the revolution became less radical and ordinary people earned more political freedoms.
