This was the very first restriction of monarchs power in all of Europe. This document would pave the way for long in the future restrictions on monarchs.

Establishment of Parliament.

While this was far in the past the original making of the parliament was very important. This allowed the monarch to decline at all as it gave an opposite force to the crown. This in the end would result in the decline of the monarchy.

King henrys split from the catholic church began a heavy divide in England. This also resulted in the idea of divine right going away for English monarchs.

English civil war

Jan 1, 1642

The English civil war was a war between sides loyal to the crown and a side loyal to the parliament. The parliament side won thus giving more power to the parliament.

King James II took the throne in England

Feb 6, 1685

King James formally abolished the parliament. This lead for the parlement to have a greater distrust of the monarch when it was reinstated and made them want to put measures in place to protect them

William and Mary take power

Feb 1, 1689

William and Mary were a dual monarchy that put into place the English bill of rights. If they did not take power then it's likely another monarch would have taken hold and made sure the parlement would not regain power..

This bill of rights was what finally segmented the idea that the parliament could check the monarchy
