    Why: British wanted control of the land
    How: Got control by defeating the French troops

    What: Issued the royal proclamation
    When: 1763
    Where: North American Territories
    Why: To establish a basis of government
  • Lord Durham's Report

    Lord Durham's Report
    Who: Francophones and British colonies
    What: There were conflicts between the two parts of Canada. Lord Durham found these to be more racial than political problems. He recommended upper and lower Canada have separate governments.

    Where: Upper and Lower Canada
    Why: This was happening because the two were not getting along due to different languages, and perspectives on issues.
    How: Durham wanted to have the Francophones assimilated.

    Who: The province of Manitoba had Public Schools and Catholic Schools. People believed the Catholic Schools weren't as good and receive more funding than they admitted to.
    What: Department of education was created and they stopped giving Catholic Schools funding. This meant that if parents wanted to send their children to a Catholic School they would have to pay a lot more.

    How: Government made it so communities couldn't fund.

    How: Government met in Ottawa to come to terms. They then elected a premier.

    How: This protects them because it affirms french being a secondary language
