    Parliament wanted to go to war with Spain over (you guessed it) religion. However, there were no funds and no means to support it outside of more taxation. King Charles I decided to go with his better judgement and go on the rationale that taxes = good. This was proved to be unpopular for obvious reasons.

    The Long Parliament was a rebuttal to the taxation to the merchant class. Everyone disliked Charles I because he had no idea what he was doing. But, this Parliament was not as egalitarian as it seems on paper. It still was fraught with the same conflicts over religion as real Parliament.

    From 1642-1646, everyone is mad at each other to the point where England breaks into two depending on loyalties.

    Made by Parliament after the Treaty of Dover, this targeted Roman Catholics and went against Charles II's values with religious tolerance. This was later repealed by Charles' successor James II.
