I was taking Saxon Algebra 1. Everyone started thinking of me as a Math Genius. Some of my friends who where a grade or two ahead of me where taking it at the same time.

As lame as it may sound for a significant event in one's life to occur in a group iMessage, that is precisely what happened. One member of the chat, Anna, asked my friend Cameron and I why we were friends with Josh. I immediately replied "BECAUSE HE'S AWESOME", but Cameron responded, "because he's a good friend." Though I somewhat knew this subconsciously already, it was at this point I realized that true friendship does not care about what someone does or has, but who they are.

We went on a youth group trip to Mexico, and that is where I became friends with my other best friend, Cameron. With all the games of slug bug and the like, one might find such a friendship unlikely. Whatever.

For myself, school had just been about learning things. Going to Ridgeview, it became about competition, about school spirit. School now is more than learning: it is sports, it is math competitions, it is trying to be the top of the class.
