My Life Course

  • Born in Islamabad, Pakistan

    Born in Islamabad, Pakistan
When I was born, I am introduced to the role of a baby exploring life and playing with toys. Social norms are set in my environment from the start, and I am introduced to the social institutions of my country. Several life events occur in this period to shape my understanding of my role and the norms in my environment.
  • Came to Canada

    Came to Canada
After coming to Canada, I have to learn new social norms and rely on varying social importance on institutions than where I previously came from. Many life events occur with other people like me in my cohort in this time to shape the perception of the environment around me. These life events transition me into more prominent roles such as being a student. My status in this stage (poor, smart) will reflect the quality of my experience and ultimately set the tone of my experiences to come.
  • Sibling born

    Sibling born
This life event transitions my role from a single child that is cared for by both parents into a brother that is looked upon to care for his sibling and be a role model for them.
  • Started high school

Starting high school forced me to take a more prominent role as a student and semi-grown adult that has to take on many responsibilities at once to be trained for the real adult life. At this stage, I have a lot of role conflict when deciding which role to prioritize in my life based on my circumstances. As a result, I will have more role strain for other roles.
  • Left high school

    Left high school
Experienced several life events that shaped my perception on school and stressed me out. This eventually made me experience severe role strain and made me leave school because of my difficulty of fulfilling my role as a student and future responsible adult.
