    Bath-time Stories
My mom use to read to me every night durning bath time. Once I entered the 3rd grade, I no longer wanted her to read to me, and decided that I now wanted to read to her. This really started my love for reading.
  • Outstanding Writer

    Outstanding Writer
In the 3rd grade, I won the most Outstanding Writer Award. I remember my mom coming home from the parent teacher conference, and telling me that my teacher said I was advanced for my age and was quite the creative writer. I was so proud of myself! This seemed to light the fire for my passion of writing.
  • 4-H

    4-H
I was in 4-H from the time I was 9-12 years old. 4-H had a huge impact on my literacy development due to the in depth reports, essays, and descriptive notes and logs I was required to make to move up a level each year. I was the reporter for the "Horse" group which meant, once a month I would have to present our recent activites and accomplishments to the entire club. Not only did 4-H improve my public speaking skills, but it helped improve my overall literacy.
  • Most Creative Writer

    Most Creative Writer
In 5th grade, I won the most creative writer award, for a book that I was both the author, and the artist. My mom told me that from 3rd to 5th grade, I wrote and illustrated a lot of my own stories, and that she was always so excited to hear what I came up with each week. This helped to boost my confidence as a writer.
  • Academic Achievement

    Academic Achievement
In 6th grade, I was nominated by my English teacher, Mr. Swan for the summer gate trip to Washington D.C. Due to my advanced writing skills and my high reading level (12.6 equivalent to a senior in high school), I won this top award, out of my entire 6th grade class. Mr. Swan really helped to expand both my reading and writing skills, and later recommended me for honors english as I entered middle school.
  • High School English

    High School English
Throughout Middle School and High School, I was in honors english courses. I learned the most durning these years on how to read and write for academic success. I had two teachers that really impacted me, Mrs. Rose and Mr. Trejo. They both knew how much potential I had and always expected a lot from me. These were also the two teachers who told me that I should consider becoming an english teacher and...here I am!
  • College

    College
My college experience as an English Education major has pushed me beyond what I ever thought I was capable of. I have crossed so many milestones and achieved a form of acedemic success that has really made me proud of myself. Not only have I became a better writer and reader, but I have also been able to expand my critical thinking and analytical skills. My experience at Fresno State has pushed me to work harder towards my goals, and has improved my literacy.
