  • Getting Stitches

My first, slightly severe injury. Since i'm not a sports player or a very active person in general, I have not broken or sprained anything, and rarely bruise myself. But this was quite an incident. I was jumping up and down on my knees on an air mattress when I went off the slide and landed on a wine glass. It was late at night when we arrived at the hospital. And although I only had to get three stitches in total, I will always have the scar on my knee to remember.
  • Building a Computer

I really liked playing computer games online, but I only had a laptop at the time. My Dad instead of just getting me a new computer, wanted me to learn about what really goes into it. So we spent a few weeks assembling the parts we needed for the machine, keeping it as low cost as possible. He spent the week with me assembling it, telling me what each part did. Not only did I learn about computers, I got a lesson about being more open minded about the things I have, and what makes them up
  • Learning to ride a unicycle

This was less about learning the skill and more about a lesson of perseverance. I received a unicycle (in pieces) on Christmas, and had to first put it together, and then learn how to ride it. My brother was teaching me a lesson about working for things that I wanted. What would be the point of having all the pieces of this thing and not being able to do anything with them? After a week of putting it together, and another few weeks of learning to ride it, I felt pretty accomplished about it.
  • Getting My Learner's Permit

Getting my learner's permit was a a big change for me. Not just learning how to drive, but it was like my first kind of introduction into the real world. When you start driving, and have the ability to transport yourself to places you want to go, you'll start having to, not only transport yourself, but maybe other people, and have to start paying for things like gas. I would no longer have to get driven places, I could independently travel wherever I want. A different new kind of freedom for me.
  • Applying for/Getting a Job

This was another passage into the real world for me. Usually my parents would help me do everything, and I've never had to do anymore work than simple chores. But going out, applying to several different places, and only having one reply, was a real eye opener. Usually everything I did was either instructed or just given to me. But I picked it up quickly, realizing that if I wanted to keep a job, I couldn't be my usual lazy self, and actually help someone’s business, not ruin it.
