    On November 19, 1600 in Dunfermline Palace, Scotland, Charles I was born. He was the second son of his parents, James VI and I of Scotland (James I of England) and Anne of Denmark. His older brother at the time was very popular and nobody cared much for Charles. His brother, Henry, wouold be the next heir to the throne because he was older.

    In the year of 1625, Charles I got married to Henrietta Maria. Both people of the couple practiced Roman Catholicism. Henrietta was the daughter of King Henry IV of France and Marie de Médicis. She had a rough childhood because her father was assassinated six months after her birth and her mother was banished from Paris when she was seven. She got married to Charles I at age 15 and he was 25.

The Petition of Rights had many rights such as; no freeman should be forced to pay any tax, no freeman should be imprisoned contrary to the laws of the land, soldiers and sailors should not be billeted on private persons, and commissions to punish soldiers and sailors by martial law should be abolished.

    In this year, King Charles accomplished a lot. He arrested opponents that posed as a threat to him. He even declared his intention of ruling alone. This declaration was important because it was a step of independence in monarchy.

    England's King Charles I dissolved Parliament and did not call it back for 11 years. Parliaments are legislatures in some countries that were once British colonies. Often referred to as the "Mother of Parliaments," it consists of the sovereign. The sovereign is defined as, "one possessing or held to possess supreme political power or sovereignty." This sovereign held the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Charles I dissolved this system because he believed it was doing more harm than good.

    On this day, Charles I's first born came into the world. He later became the King of England. He lived to be 55 years old when he passed away and due to the lack of children he had, his brother, James took over power. Charles II was a protestant believer until he was on his death bed when he converted to Catholicism.

    The war began when Charles I declared war on Parliament from Nottingham. He went to the House of Commons to arrest some of its members and was refused entry. After this, no monarch was allowed entry. King Charles I did not live long enough to see the end of the war.
