    House of Burgesses
    The House of Burgesses were allowed to make laws for the Jamestown Colony. The house was a representative gorverment, meaning the townspeople elect representatives to govern and make laws for them.

    Colonists set up a legislature in Massachusetts called the General Court.
  • English Civil War

    English Civil War
    King Charles and the Parliament's arguments led to the English Civil War.
  • Monarchy was restored.

    Monarchy was restored.
    Parliament won the English Civil War. They excecuted the King Charles and ruled all of England.
  • King James II rethroned.

    King James II rethroned.
    King James was removed from his throne so he invited his daughter and husband to rule. (Queen Mary and King William)

    King William And Queen Mary signed the English Bill of Rights. Bills of Rights was a list of freedoms the goverment pledges to protect.

    The Enlightment.
    John Locke and Baron de Montesquieu came up with The Enlightment. This was an intellectual movement that was believed that all problems could be solved by human reason. It's main feature was the "natural laws." It governed politics, society, and economics.

    An emotion packed Christian movement began. It lasted from the 1730's to 1740's. This was when Christians saw a decline from religious activities throughout the colonies, and people made it less a proirity in their lives. Leaders like Jonathan Edwards held a sermon presuading people to include God in their lives.0
  • The Procolomation of 1763

    The Procolomation of 1763
    The British goverment issued the Proclamation of 1763, in 1763. It's whole point was to avoid further wars from the Native Americans. This was because the Native Americans attacked the Biritsh forts around May, 1763. It banned colonial settlement along the west line. Settlers were not allowed to settle in the west. This was ignored by the colonists, because they felt they should have the right to settle wherever they want.

    The Stamp Act was a law passed by the Parliament. Ignored by the colonists. It had all colonists buy special tax stamps for products or activities.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense
    An author named Thomas Paine published a pamphlet called, "The Crisis." It simulated support for independence. It ridiculed the idea of being ruled by Kind George III and said Americans would be better off governing themselves. This pamphlet was very significant, and inspired people in all of the colonies. Geogre Washington described "Common Sense" as "..is working a powerful change in the minds of men.."
  • The Declaraion of Independence

    The Declaraion of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was signed on August 2nd, 1776, approved July 4th. Written by Thomas Jeffreson, with the help of John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, It stated the ideas of American leaders that colonies wanted to be independent of the rule of Great Britain. It changed the nature of the American Revoloution, and made a big mark in our American history.

    The attack of Trenton
    On the day of Christmas, George Washington led men across a river in small boats. The conditions were harsh, due to cold weather and the troops were supplied poorly. The men trudge through freezing snow with bare feet. The next morning, once they reached their destination they attacked Trenton from two sides, acheiveing a great victory.
