    The Magna Carta is a document that limited King John's power. After the signing, the pope forced the king to turn England over to him, and doing so angered the nobles.

    Charles I tried to convert Scotland from the Presbyterian faith to his Anglican faith. However, he was not successful since he did not have absolute power because of the Petition of Rights that he signed.

    The document King Charles I signed that limited his power as a king. However, Charles merely signed the document and then ignored it and continued on in his ways.
  • English Civil War

    Parliament began to raise an army once Charles I neglected to follow the Petition of Rights. The English Civil War was fought between Parliament and Charles I. Parliament's army defeated the King's by which they caught the king and publically beheaded him.
  • Oliver Cromwell takes over

    Oliver Cromwell takes over
    Oliver Cromwell took over England after King Charles I was killed. Cromwell was a Lord Protector, took over the Parliament's army, and lead the country with his strength and charisma. Cromwell's power increase drastically because he had control of the country's money, army, and politics. Basically becoming the dictator of England, he massacred the Irish due to their disloyalty.

    The son on Charles I became king during the Restoration after Oliver Cromwell. Habeas Corpus restricted his power as a ruler, however his time as ruler was good (he wasn't the worst ruler like Charles I but he wasn't a phenomenal one either).

    The document Charles II signed to limit his power as king. The Habeas Corpus set laws such as the king can not hold anyone without charging them for a crime in which they have been proven guilty or the right for a judge.

    James II was Charles II's son who took after his grandfather (Charles I) by ignoring people and saying that Parliament had no right to meet anymore. Of course they were going to overturn his throne so instead he fled the area to avoid being killed as his grandfather was.

    England's Constitutional Monarchy InformationThroughout the Glorious Revolution, James II fled and Mary and William of Orange took the throne. The Glorious Revolution was a new start for England, with a new system of government called a constitutional monarchy. In a constitutional monarchy, the king or queen and parliament work together to rule the country the best they can. England continues to use this system today with Queen Elizabeth II ruling.
