    The Mali empire was located in Northeast Africa and the empire was known for their source of wealth was gold and salt. Mansa Musa was the ruler and reigned for 25 years. He was known for his large amount of gold that he had and he converted over to Islam. The only portion of the Five Pillars that he did was the Hajj. While traveling to Mecca it was hard for him because of the Sahara’s blistering heat. After Musa died the Golden Age of Mali ended and Mali began to decline.

    The crusade was intended to conquer Jerusalem, but instead they conquered the city of Constantinople, which at that time was the capital of the Byzantine Empire. This invasion helped to declined the empire.

    Genghis Khan united all the Mongol tribes and sets out to destroy the Jin and Song dynasties. The Great Wall of China was already built and the Chinese thought that this would stop invasions, but to prove them wrong Genghis Khan went around the wall to invade China.

    10,000 German and 20,000 French children set off on the Children’s Crusade. The leader, a 14 year old boy named Stephen from France, has a vision of a God. The young boy asks the pope for helping in rescuing the Holy Land and he is granted permission. The children set off for Palestine, expecting the Mediterranean to split as it did for Moses and the Red Sea. When the sea doesn’t split they are given a generous ride across the ocean, but the sailors took them captive and sold them into slavery.

    Pope Innocent III called it the most important event in Church’s histories. The council gathered at Rome’s Lateral Palace and sometimes called it the “Great Council” or “The General Council of Lateral.” It contains 71 Patriarchs and metropolitan bishops, 412 bishops, and 900 abbots and priors.
