Muhammad was born

Muhammad was born in Mecca. He went on in his life to spread his teachings and started a wide spread and monotheistic religion called Islam. He was an important asset to the Islam faith becuase he was looked as the messenger of God.

Muhammad recieves first revelation

Mar 4, 610

He begins his career as a prophet at Mt. Hira. He recieved a message from God and he spent most of the rest of his life spreading "Allah's" teachings.

Hijira

Mar 4, 622

Hijira was when the Muslims migrated from Mecca to Medina because Muslims were being persecuted in Mecca so Muhammad and his followers left to escape religious persecution.

Takes control of Mecca

Mar 4, 630

Muhammad rises and takes control of Mecca which shows the amount of power his followere and him have.

Death of Muhammad

Mar 4, 633

The most important person in Islam besides Allah passed away on this date. He died only 3 years after capturing Mecca and that can cause a huge increase in popularity of Islam.

Islam begins to spreads into North Africa

This is Islam's first expansion. You can see that it is starting to spread because it is a good religion.

Imam Ali is killed

This brought an end to "the four ritcheous caliphs" and also marks the start of the Umayyad rule.

Muslims enter Spain and India

Muslims enter Spain in the West and India in the East. This is only the start of Islam's expansion because eventually almost the entire Irabian Peninsula will be under Islam control

The Abbasids take over rule from Umayyads

The Abbasids were the third dynasty to succeed the prophet Muhammad.

Islam continues spreading through Africa

Islam is spreading rapidly and it is beginning to reach Africa. That is pretty far away from where it started so this shows how fast it is spreading.

Crusaders take Jerusalem away from Muslims

Jerusalem is a holy land is a sacred land and it was sacred to Muslims. This affected them greatly but eventually they took it back.

Islam continues to spread through Asia

Islam is still rapidly spreading and now it is reaching as far as Asia.That's a huge amount of Muslims from Africa, through Europe, all the way to Asia.

The first Ottoman state is formed

In Anatolia, Turkey, a huge and new empire was born. The Ottoman Empire was a very successful empire who dominated a huge landmass and made many advancements. They were Muslims.

Ottoman Empire conquers Constantinople

This is important because this event was the official end of the Byzantine Empire since Constantinople was their capital. The Ottoman Empire showed everyone who's boss by conquering it and renaming it Istanbul

World War 1 ends

Period: Mar 24, 1870 to Mar 24, 1924

This concludes the rule of the Ottoman Empire. They sided with the wrong side and it ultimately ended the strong rule of the Ottoman Empire.

The Nation of Islam is created

The Nation of Islam was created in the United States which was based on some Islamic ideas but there were a few changes to the religion. The appointment of Elijah Muhammad as a prophet was one of those changes.

The state of Israel is created

Many people flee to the United States including many Christrians and Muslims and this is important because it is increasing the population of Muslims in the United States.

Revision of immigration opens doors even more for Muslims

Muslims continue to flow into the United States and they spread the idea of Islam. They were showing everyone their religion and some people decided to join it in the United States.

The establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran

As a result of the Islamic Revolution the Islam Republic of Iran was formed. This was the first attempt of an Islamic state in the modern era.

The bombing of the World Trade Center

In New York City 2 planes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center killing many people. This event changed the view many Americand had on Muslims. Now a lot of people think of the people of Islam as terrorists even though that is not true at all.
