  • Palace of Versailles built

    Louis builds a home, a little place called Versailles. The three main purposes of Versailles was that is was the personal household of the King, the chief offices of the state were there so Louis could keep an eye on them, and the powerful subjects came to find favors and offices for themselves.
  • When King Louis moved the capital of France from Paris to Versailles

    The king moved in because he wanted to keep an eye on everyone and make sure that they were doing what they should be doing.
  • When King Louis XVI married Marie Antoinette

    Marie Antoinette was Austrian (France's long-time enemy) nobility. Marie was 14 years old when she and Louis XVI was 15 years old. To consolidate the diplomatic reconciliation between France and Austria, Louis XV and Empress Marie Theresa decided to marry their children, Louis XVI, and Marie Antoinette.
  • Bastille is Stormed

    The Bastille was a state prison on the east side of Paris. It was attacked by an angry and aggressive mob. The mob surrounded the prison to steal weapons to defend themselves. They overtook the prison and killed the guards.
  • When The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen was written

    In 1789 the French National Constituent Assembly issued the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen which defined individual and collective rights at the time of the French Revolution.
  • Women’s March on Versailles

    Parisian women riot over rising prices of bread and broke into the Palace of Versailles. They also demanded Louis and Marie Antoinette return to Paris.
  • The Reign of Terror

    The Reign of Terror was a very violent period in the French Revolution. This was incited by conflict between the Girondins and the Jacobins, which were two rival political factions.
  • King Louis is executed XVI

    King Louis XVI was executed one day after being convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers. He was executed by guillotine in the Place de la Revolution in Paris.
