    In 1787 France was experiencing sevre droughts. The droughts affected the harvest, meaning there would be food shortage and the food that was grown, was expensive to buy. For the 3rd estate it would cost a months salary to buy one loaf of bread.

  • National Assembly Created

    National Assembly Created
    sourceThe National Assembly was a revolutionary group of representives from the 3rd estate, created to represent the 3rd estate. The estates generals were called to order by King Louis the 16th, the 3rd estate was given double representatives, seeing as they were the biggest estate, but when it came to vote they found out that they were voting by estates, so the double amount of representatives didnt matter. This made the 3rd estate representatives angry, so they decided to meet separatley.

    Tennis Court Oath
    Since the National Assembly was wasn't meeting with the Estates Generals any longer, the king tried to make it so the National Assembly couldn't meet at all, he locked the room where they met. The National Assembly decided to meet by the local tennis courts and have their meetings there. They all made an oath to keep meeting until the D.R.M was done, they all kept their promise.     Attack on Bastille
    sourceOn July 13 a rumor was spread around Paris that the king was planning on attacking the new parliment. Men decided to fight back by storming the Bastille, stealing gunpowder, guns and anything to help them. The mob killed any guards and men in their way. The Bastille was destroyed, brick by brick.

    sourceDocument created by the National Assembly declaring the individual rights and all the rights of the estates. The document was inspired by the American Revolution and influneced by the by the doctrine of natural rights.

    Bread March
    Thousands of women marched 12 miles to Versailles from Paris demanding food. The women were armed with broomsticks, lances, pitchforks, swords, pistols and muskets. They wanted King Louis to sign the D.R.M.. The women stormed the palace, killing gaurds in their way, and ended up capturing the royal family, bringing them back to Paris. Source: Notes

    The Royal Escape
    sourceIn the night of 20/21 of June in 1791, King Louis the 16th and Marie Antoinette, with their family, attempted to leave Paris. There destination was to head to Austria, where Marie Antoinette was from, so they could strike a counter-attack on the revolutioners. The failed attempted to flee the country resulted in them being arrested and charged with treason.

    Trial of King Louis XVI
    sourceKing Louis XVI trial started on December 3. During his trial he was placed with 33 charges total. Attempting to flee the country, made an agreement to Leopold of Austria and Fredrick Williams of Brenburg to restore the monarchy in France, andthe cause of Frenchmen blood to spill just to name a few. In the end all 693 deputys said "yes" to him being guitly, and was given the death penalty.

    sourceOn January 21, 1793 King Louis XVI was executed by the guillotine. He was charged with treason for his previous attempt to flee the country to go to Austria, as well as other charges. His death started the Reign of Terror

    sourceThe French government wanted to rule with terror, killing anyone suspicious of being against the revolution. Many people were killed everday, from priests to nobilists. People could be turned in for saying their opinion on the revolution or not being happy enough about it.

Anyone with anything bad to say about Marie was brought in to testify against her. Everyone could tell that she loved her children and motherhood, so someone came up with the accusation that she sexually assulted her son, Louis Charles. This is where she argued this saying how she could never hurt her own child.

    sourceIn the middle of October, Marie Antoinette was tried for her crimes. She was accused of interfering in the government, giving her husband bad advice, and plotting against the country. She was charged guilty and was beheaded 24 hours later.

    Maximillien Robespierre was considered the head of the revoution, or leader. He was anti-death penalty, but during the Reign of Terror, his views changed. He made a fateful decision by coming into the National Assembly one day saying he had a list of people who should die, but he wouldn't show anyone one the list, everyone was scared they were on this list.     sourceUntil July 3 of 1793 Louis Charles was impriosned with his mother and sister, when gaurds came to take him away. Marie Antoinette held onto her son for an hour trying to reason with the gaurds, only for them to threaten both her son and daughter. He was priosner in a windowless room. where people believe he was abused. He died of tuberculosis, some people thinking he died of abuse or was murdered.

    The results from the French Revolution were France won the war against Austria, England, and Prussia. The French goverment had multiple changes. Napolean came to power and ruled as a dictator.

    Napoleon Bonaparte rises to power
    During the revolution Napoleon was an army general and during the wars, he rose through the ranks. His war tactics helped French conqure many countries and make them free from monarchs. Napoleon is considered the greatest general in all of history.
