    Armies depart from Constantinople After settling their differences with Alexius, the main crusader army crossed the straights of the Bosphorous into Asia Minor in May 1097. With Byzantine forces, they then captured the town of Nicea, this was essential in order to gain access to the main land route through Asia Minor to Syria. In June 1097 the crusade army met an army despatched by Sultan Kilij Arslan on the plain of Dorylaeum.

    Warriors unite! The siege began in 1097 and was to last for 8 months through the long bitter winter. It ws impossible for the crusaders to encircle the citys 25 miles of walls to prevent food suppliers from coming in, so it was the crusaders who starved.

    The Crusades Report The Siege of Jerusalem took place from June 7 to July 15, 1099 during the First Crusade. During it, the Crusaders stormed and captured the city from Fatimid Egypt. The Siege is notable for the massacre that followed, during which virtually the entire population of Jerusalem was slaughtered.
    After the successful siege of Antioch in June 1098, the crusaders remained in the area for the rest of the year.
