Irish Potato Famine
A potato disease swept over Ireland making our most vlaued crops disappear and they were infected by the potato blight.
Because of all the destroyed crops, ruined land, no freedom, and not enough land, I will immigrate to America because it is the land of oppurtunity. My land has just been taken away since I am in so much debt. In America I know that for sure I will get the land that I rightly deserve -
Arrived at Ellis Island
After a few months of traveling on a boat from Ireland, I am finally in America, Ellis Island to be exact.
To be able to get through, we had to go through legal insepections and medical examinations. -
Job
To earn any money at all I have to work at a factory. The term is called sweatshop because it is hot, overcrowded, dirty, and hence the name, sweaty. It is very hard work and very exhausting to but it is the only option I have. I need money so that I can move west and so far, this is my only option. -
Moving West
Finally, I have saved all my earnings and I can finally move west! I heard that there is gold in the west and if I get there then maybe I can become rich. Today is the day that I will finally get to actually start fresh and begin the new life that I have always dreamed of. -
New Job
Because of all the people coming in from everywhere seeking gold, I got a job in the lumber industry. I can help with building cities and housing for all the other immigrants who seek gold here west. -
Homestead Act
After such a long time, I have finally worked long enoughfor my land. The Homestead Act provides land for anyone willing to live on and take care of it for at least 5 years. Well, after living here for such along time, my dream will finally come true.
