    Fought for redistribution of land and racial equality.

    18 months later mexican republic created

  • Betrayal

    Ignacio Elizondo betrays rebels
    Ambushed Hidalgo on road to Monclova
    Hidalgo and his associates were executed in Chiuahua

  • The downfall of José Morelos

    José Morelos is captured and was executed

  • The plan for a democracy

    -Officials meet in what is currently the state of Guerrero
    -They make a plan called “Plan de Iguala” for a constitutional monarchy
    -The plan is for Mexico to become an independent state.

  • Treaty of Cordova

    Viceroy of New Spain(soon to be Mexico) agrees to accept the Plan de Iguala

  • Emperor of Mexico

    Since Mexico was not an independent constitutional monarchy Iturbide was proclaimed emperor of Mexico

  • Fall of Iturbide

    Republican leaders of Santa Anna took over to set up a republic ruled by their new president Guadalupe Victoria

  • Mexico's victory

    -Mexico won against france during the Battle of Puebla during the French-Mexican War
    -This is where the holiday “Cinco de Mayo” comes from.
