    Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, Juan Aldama, and Ignacio Allende were having secret meetings in which they disccussed the plan of how they would become independent from the Spanish. These meetings were essential towards the independence of Mexico. The meetings were known as "reading club" so that no one would suspect.

    Grito de Dolores
    Doña Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez made Ignacio Allende know about the arrest of San Miguel through Ignacio Perez, and he told Juan Aldama to tell Miguel Hidalgo in Dolores. On the 16 of September, he awwived to Hidalgos house, and knowing that they were going to be arrested, Hidalgo rang the church bells to gather the town. This is essentially what started the Independence Movement.

    After taking San Miguel and Celaya, Hidalgoa and his army arrived at Guanajuato where the battle against Juan Antonio de Riaño took place. When he was finally killed, Juan Martinez, the leader of the opposing army, lit the wooden gate on fire and they entered to kill the gachupines.

    Allende and Hidalgo split their army and took over Zacatecas, San Luis and Vallaloid. When Hidalgo´s army entered Mexico city, this battle emerged in Monte de las cruces. They were able to win this battle and the opposing group to the city.

    Since the Spanish forces were starting to regroup, the royalist troops were caught with the rebels, but even then Hidalgo´s army was able to surpass their people. Sadly, many indians began to flee when they saw that Hidalgo´s arm was wounded because of an explosion.

    Miguel Hidalgo´s Execution
    Since Miguel Hidalgo was a priest, when he got caught in Chihuahua with Allende and the other leaders he was subjected to trial. The Holy Office of the Inquisitions pledged him guilty of heresy and treason. This day, his head was put on display in Guanajuato and he was decapinated.

    Plan de Iguala
    Basically, the Plan de Iguala consisted of 3 guarantees. First, once Mexico became independent, Mexico would be a constitutional monarchy, and would offer the crown to a European prince. Second, a monopoly wouold be given to catholicism along with a clergyman, who would continue to be priviliged. Third, the criollos and the peninsulares would be treated with equality.

    The 3rd of September of 1821, the 11 year war finally came to an end when Iturbide entered Mexico city. The keys were given to the commander in chief, who claimed he would close some doors, and open the door to happiness.
